The auxiliary industry of Andalusian agriculture expands its business opportunities in Mexico

La Junta de Andalucía has organized a trade mission, with the participation of nine Andalusian companies from the agricultural auxiliary industry and more than twenty local agents of the sector, to the Mexican state of Baja California, which began on May 29 and ended today, with the aim of expanding the business opportunities of Andalusian firms in Mexico, a growing country with great needs to modernize its agricultural production.

Likewise, during the event, 54 top-level business meetings were held with local businessmen and a networking day was held with the participation of 40 Mexican companies. Andalucía TRADE has organized the commercial agenda of the Andalusian delegation that has toured the main agricultural areas of the Mexican state, including Mexicali and Ensenada, to know the needs of this sector in the area of ​​Baja California, one of the two states that make up the second longest peninsula in the world in extension located in Mexico. This area enjoys great agricultural wealth and has a strategic geographical position, as it borders with United States, through the Sea of ​​Cortez.

 

This action has been a great opportunity for Andalusian agribusiness companies to enter a growing market and demonstrate their know-how, since Mexico requires an increasingly high-tech agricultural industry, with greater innovation and that incorporates new mechanisms for more environmentally sustainable production, especially to supply the United States, the world's leading power and the largest buyer of Mexican agri-food products.

 

According to Andalucía TRADE reports, The Mexican agri-food sector is in full growth and currently represents around 8,2% of the national GDP. In that sense, and to continue in this position, agricultural producers in the area need to introduce innovations in irrigation, irrigation and fertilizer systems; precisely the most pioneering areas of work among Andalusian companies in the agribusiness sector.

 

In this way, local Mexican production can compete in cost and quality with foreign crops to continue leading purchases from the United States, since Mexico closed the year 2022 with a trade surplus of more than 14.000 million euros with the continent. American.

 

Likewise, the state of Baja California today concentrates the most important agricultural production in Mexico, with greenhouse vegetable and berry crops on the Ensenada-San Quintín lands; green leafy vegetables and fruits in the Mexicali Valley; or vineyards in the Valle de Guadalupe. They are three large, very well differentiated areas that Andalusian companies have explored through the programmed agenda.

Companies from Almería, Córdoba and Granada

The Andalusian delegation that has been part of the mission organized by the Business Agency for Economic Transformation and Development of the Junta de Andalucía is made up of a total of nine companies from Almería, Córdoba and Granada that are dedicated to the latest technology required by greenhouses, crops, fertilizers, biostimulants, irrigation systems and textile meshes.

 

The companies that have traveled to Mexico are Novagric, New Groing System, Hispatec, Criado López, Ritec and Inagroup Biotech, from Almería; López Garrido Crushers and Econatur Laboratories, from Córdoba; and Mafa Vegetal Ecobiology, from Granada.

 

To organize this mission, Andalucía TRADE has had the collaboration of the Government of the State of Baja California, through the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Ministry of Economy and Innovation; the Agricultural Council of Baja California; the Ensenada Business Coordinating Council; and the Agri-Food Councils of Mexico.

 

In addition to developing a B2B meeting agenda, Andalusian companies They visited the largest chive producer in Mexico (Agrícola San Pedro) and to local companies GN Producers, Agricultural Producer El Toro and Agroproductos Las Cumbres. They also visited the Mexicali Agropark, located in the Mexicali Valley, in the capital of Baja California, where dates are mainly grown.

 

On the other hand, the community delegation was able to see various agricultural production greenhouses and their bioinput laboratories; as well as the activity of firms such as Bodega Santo Tomás and Heirloom Farms. In addition, they were received by the president of the Baja California Agricultural Council (CABC), Walberto Solorio.

 

Subsequently, a business and institutional networking day was held at the headquarters of the Ensenada Business Coordinating Council, in which Andalusian firms presented their commercial activity to 40 local companies.

 

Mexico, second Latin American market

Likewise, with sales worth 18 million euros, Mexico is positioned as the second Latin American market (18,4% of the total) despite a decrease of 6%, only surpassed by Brazil, whose exports amount to 39 million euros, with almost triple sales thanks to an increase of 180% compared to 2021.
