The Spanish space industry is involved in the development of the European Spaceport in Kourou.

The Spanish company GTD Ingeniería de Sistemas y de Software has renewed its contract to be responsible for the operations and IT systems at Europe's Spaceport in Kourou (French Guiana) for the next five years.
The Secretary General for Industry, Jordi Trullén, signed the renewal of the agreement for the period 2007-2011 with the European Space Agency (ESA) aircraft launch site at GTD's facilities in Barcelona.
The contract has been awarded to the Antiope group, formed by the Spanish company GTD, the Italian company Vitrociset and the French company Telespazio, and reaches an amount of 80 million euros, of which 22 million correspond to GTD.
The Spanish company will be responsible for the comprehensive maintenance of the European Spaceport's operational systems and IT infrastructure. Its functions include ensuring the proper functioning of systems such as the control center, flight safety, radars, telemetry, and mission planning. All of these elements are vital to ensuring a successful launch.
GTD began operations and maintenance activities in French Guiana in 1992.
Joan Trullén highlighted the extraordinary progress that the space sector in Spain has experienced in the last two decades, which, he indicated, means that "no one is surprised anymore that Spanish companies participate in and even lead projects and consortia at the highest level in space matters."
During his speech at the signing of the agreement, the Secretary General for Industry also referred to the influence of the space sector on society. "Citizen-oriented services that pave the way for the knowledge society are based on essential technologies that only the space sector offers," he stated.
Trullén also recalled the importance of the Strategic Plan for the Space Sector 2007-2011, presented last December by the Minister of Industry, Tourism and Trade, Joan Clos, with the aim of achieving greater representation of our country in the space sector.
Spain has actively participated in the Ariane 4 and 5 launcher programs since their inception. It is currently collaborating on the VEGA launcher program and on adapting the Kourou spaceport for Soyuz launches in the near future.
