43 million euros invested in a candy and chocolate factory in Mexico
Argentine food group Arcor, the largest candy manufacturer in Latin America, and Mexican company Bimbo, the largest bakery in the region, inaugurated a plant to manufacture sweets and chocolates in central Mexico, in which they invested around 43 million euros (about 60 million dollars) with an annual production capacity of 35 million tons.
During the inauguration of the "Mundo Dulce" plant in the city of Toluca, in the center of the country, the CEO of Grupo Bimbo, Daniel Servitje, stated that these facilities will have state-of-the-art technology "at the service of the manufacture of sweets and chocolates for the national and international market."
The plant, which will employ 900 people, 50% of them women, represents "exports and foreign exchange for Latin America, investment and employment," the executive stated.
For his part, Luis Pagani, general manager of Arcor, highlighted that for the Argentine company it is important to establish itself in the Mexican market because of the country's proximity to the North and Central American markets "which makes it very attractive for exports."
Furthermore, he acknowledged that Mexico has become one of the main export markets for its products in recent years, so Arcor's entry into Mexican territory is part of a "long-term" strategy.
He pointed out that Bimbo and Arcor have been characterized as socially responsible companies, seeking above all to consolidate their position in the domestic market and then achieve leadership in international markets.
The alliance between Bimbo and Arcor dates back to 2003, when the company began distributing "Bon o Bon" chocolates in Mexico, manufactured by the Argentine company.
Two giants of sweets
Bimbo is considered one of the world's largest baking companies, given its brand positioning, production levels, and sales. Founded in 1945, it now has 74 plants across three continents and 87.000 employees in 17 countries.
Grupo Arcor, founded in 1951, is one of the world's largest candy producers and the leading exporter of sweets from Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Peru.
Currently, it has 41 plants, 30 of which are located in Argentina and the remaining 11 in Latin America. Its production volume exceeds three million kilograms per day, and its own-brand products reach 120 countries across five continents.
The new "Mundo Dulce" plant, located in the Exportec II industrial park, has a production capacity of 35,000 tons and will produce a variety of 150 sweets, including chewing gum, chocolates, candies, and lollipops. Thirty percent of production will be exported to the US and Central America.
