The WTO launches a powerful interactive tool for monthly analysis of merchandise trade.

The tool provides access to data on bilateral trade of more than 120 economies and more than 200 of their trading partners, broken down into 72 product categories. It is characterized by its weekly updates, based on statistics from Trade Data Monitor (TDM), a source that compiles business data from government offices and agencies around the world.

This resource, hosted on the WTO's tariff and trade data portal, promises to be essential for policymakers, researchers and businesses.

To facilitate exploration and analysis of trends, the platform is structured into three key interactive dashboards:

  1. Short-term outlook: Provides a snapshot of a selected economy's trade performance, showing total trade values and growth rates by product.

  2. Bilateral trade: Allows users to examine key trade relationships between two countries, providing bilateral trade values and shares, with product-level detail.

  3. All partners: It highlights the most important trading partners of a selected economy, showing trade values, growth rates, and partner shares, and highlighting changes in trade patterns.

The dashboards include statistics covering 2018 through the latest available month for each economy. Trade flows are aggregated in monthly, quarterly, and year-to-date (YTD) views, allowing for comparative and detailed analysis of trade performance over time.

With this initiative, the WTO seeks to improve understanding of the dynamics of international trade and provide a solid data basis for informed decision-making.
