The WTO welcomes US congressmen

The Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, and the Deputy Director General, Angela Ellard, received a delegation from the Congress of the United StatesWith 28 members from both parties in the House of Representatives, this visit has become one of the largest the organization has ever received.

During the meeting, key topics were discussed, including the fundamental role of the United States in the WTO and current challenges facing global trade. The delegation and representatives of the organization exchanged perspectives on the WTO's negotiating agenda and the need for internal reform.

“It has been fantastic to be able to interact with the representatives, better understand the concerns of their constituents, and inform them about the challenges and opportunities facing the organization and global trade,” said Director-General Okonjo-Iweala. “The dialogue has been constructive and a positive sign of leadership and the United States' commitment to the WTO."

The visit, which was unofficial, was carried out as part of the TransAtlantic Capital to Capital Exchange program, in collaboration with the Ripon Society and the Franklin Center for Global Policy Exchange.
