163 companies in the Region carried out commercial operations with Japan in 2023
Tokyo hosted a presentation seminar on attracting investments organized by the Ministry of Economy, Finance and Business, through the Development Institute (Info), ICEX Spain Export and Investment and Japan External Trade Organization (Jetro).

About 50 Japanese businessmen with interests in international markets They were able to learn about the business opportunities offered by the Murcia region.
This meeting aimed to be an exploration of the dynamics and prosperous business landscape of the Murcia, and is limited within the framework of the institutional and commercial mission to Japan and South Korea which is taking place this week, and which is allowing the regional government and the regional delegation, made up of representatives of regional business associations, such as COEC and Ceclor; members of the Chambers of Commerce of Murcia and Lorca; representatives of the scientific-technological field; as well as a dozen technology companies and corporations, learn about the innovative and business ecosystem of the Japanese country, and present the Region of Murcia as a destination for the development of investment projects.
The seminar took place at the Spanish Embassy in Japan and included a discussion panel with senior executives from prestigious Japanese companies, such as Takasago and Yanmar, who shared their business experience about their investments in the Region of Murcia.
The counselor, Luis Alberto Marín, explained during his speech “the varied tourist offer of the Region of Murcia”, as well as “the assets of the agri-food sector, the driving force of the economy and a reference within and outside our borders, which exports 20 percent. percent of the volume of Spanish fruits and vegetables.” Likewise, he highlighted “the leading agricultural technology sector and the growing technological fabric of startups, which is producing a tractor effect for the implementation of innovative companies".
In addition, he highlighted "the regional government's determined commitment to companies, to enhance economic growth, to support the true architects of the generation of wealth and employment, who are investors and businessmen." Here he highlighted the work carried out by the Investment Acceleration Unit (UNAI), “which accompanies the entrepreneur throughout the process of launching his project and reduces most of the implementation procedures by half.”
The first day of the mission also included several work meetings with representatives of the Federation of Small Business Associations, an entity that works on the promotion and application of measures for small businesses and support for cooperatives; from the Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry; and a visit to Yanmar, an investment company in the Region of Murcia dedicated to the manufacture of diesel engines, heavy machinery and agricultural machinery.
Regional presence at the largest agri-food fair in Asia and Oceania
The regional institutional and commercial delegation attended in Tokyo foodex, the largest agri-food fair held in the area of Asia and Oceania and which is considered the third largest in the world. “It constitutes an important showcase for companies interested in entering the Japanese and Asian market in general; and/or to consolidate its presence in them,” highlighted the counselor.
In this edition, the Spanish pavilion hosts several companies from the Region of Murcia (Casa Rojo, Fruveco, J. García Carrión, Juver Alimentación, La Comarca Meats and Ramón Sabater). All of them are examples of the 163 companies in the Region that carried out commercial operations with Japan last year. The figure for regional exports to Japan last year was 137,47 million euros. The main products sold by the Region are fish and seafood, frozen meats and offal, chemicals, and food ingredients and additives. By autonomous communities, the Region was the seventh exporter to this country, with a market share of 4,9 percent.

Before attending Foodex, counselor Luis Alberto Marín and the regional delegation visited the Tokyo fish market and attended the tuna auction in the Region of Murcia. Later, they visited Haneda Innovation City, a large-scale business and commercial innovation complex, featuring research and development facilities, an advanced medical research center, and convention facilities.
