La Murcia has reaffirmed its position as the leading exporter of food ingredients and additives in SpainDuring 2024, the regional sector's international sales exceeded €527 million, representing a significant growth of more than 14% compared to the previous year. Data from the first months of 2025 also indicate that this upward trend continues, consolidating the region's leadership at the national level.
In the first two months of this year, exports of the sector have already reached 99,56 million euros, demonstrating the strength and dynamism of Murcian companies in the international market.
With the aim of continuing to boost these figures, the Ministry of Business, Employment and Social Economy, through the Development Institute (Info), in collaboration with the Murcia Chamber of Commerce, has organized the participation of regional small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the fair 'IFT FIRST'. This event, which will be held in Chicago (USA) Held in mid-July, it is considered the largest international gathering on science and innovation in the food industry. The fair brings together suppliers of ingredients, equipment, and technology, who present the latest innovations and trends that are transforming the future of food.
The Business Counselor, Marisa López AragónHe highlighted the potential of the regional sector, stating that it "achieved an absolute leadership position, as last year one in four Spanish products exported from the sector came from the Region of Murcia." He also emphasized "the importance of our companies committing to innovation to improve quality, safety, and sustainability in a sector that must adapt to meet the demands of increasingly discerning consumers."
Among the main products exported by the Region are spices, especially pepper and paprika, as well as food additives, sauces, and condiments. Regarding the destinations for these exports, the United States stands out as the main importer of Murcia products, with a volume of €125,59 million, followed by France (64,62 million euros), Germany, (39,86 million euros) and the United Kingdom (38,4 million euros).
This initiative to participate in the 'IFT FIRST' fair is part of the 2025 Foreign Promotion Plan of the Institute for Development, developed in collaboration with the Chambers of Commerce of Murcia, Cartagena and Lorca, and co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (Feder).
