The Stowage Society of the Port of Algeciras Bay (CPE) has shown its firm intention to support and implement the sustainability commitments of the Port Authority with the signature of the letter of accession to the EGreen strategy of the Port of Algeciras. Roadmap according to the company's objectives, which have been signed by the president of the Port Authority (APBA), Gerardo Landaluce, and the general director of the CPE, Juan Carlos Mata.
With the signature, the CPE of Algeciras is involved in this strategy, leading initiatives that promote the 12 sustainability commitments of the APBA, in its social, economic and environmental pillars. Some of them are already underway in the company, such as its Equality Plan, or initiatives to reduce electricity consumption in its buildings, the consumption of plastics and paper, and continue improving waste management. All of this, the result of his Integrated Management System, based on ISO:9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015 and 45001:2018 standards, certified by Bureau Veritas.
Aside from the goals set for this year, the company aims to achieve “zero paper” production, create the carbon and water footprint of the CPE, evolve the company's vehicles towards electric mobility, and install a photovoltaic self-consumption installation on the roof of the training building, which will produce 30.000 Kwh/year, the equivalent of saving 34 tons of CO2 emissions per year.
For his part, Landaluce has stated that the support of the CPE of Algeciras "consolidates the commitment that we at the Port Authority are making for sustainable growth and development." In addition to the commitment of the companies that operate in the port facilities managed by the APBA, Landaluce recalled that the Green Strategy takes shape in actions such as the replacement of lighting with LED luminaires, the improvement of efficiency in the APBA facilities, the installation of solar panels for self-consumption, projects to provide electricity supply OPS (Onshore Power Supply) to the docks of Tarifa and Algeciras, as well as support for different initiatives related to decarbonization and the use of alternative fuels such as Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) or Green Hydrogen, among other projects.
Commitments. The Green Strategy of the Port Authority includes the 12 commitments of environmental, social and economic sustainability that the institution wants to extend to the entire port community and includes everything from the fight against climate change to the reduction of inequalities. At the end of 2022, AENOR certified the APBA Green Strategy in accordance with its contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the UN 2030 Agenda. The APBA is thus the first port authority in the state system to obtain certification of its sustainable development strategy.
