The Xunta de Galicia highlights the seafood processing sector as an international reference

Galician exports of seafood products set a new record last year, exceeding 2.400 billion euros and reaching more than 120 countries.

The Sea Councilor, Rosa Quintana, participated in the inauguration of the Third edition of the Vilanova Canned Food Fair, where he highlighted the transcendental role that the seafood processing sector has in providing healthy food to citizens. “Galician preserves are synonymous with quality,” said the regional official, emphasizing the importance of an industry that is also international reference.

 

In this sense, the head of Sea recalled that Galicia exported seafood products worth more than 2.400 billion euros last year, which represents a new export record of the sector. These figures, he added, place Galicia as the tenth world exporter of fishing products with sales in more than 120 countries.

 

Rosa Quintana indicated that this fact confirms the effort made by an industry that continually opts for innovation and adapting to consumer demands, which makes it very competitive. Thus, she pointed out that events like this one Vilanova They value the good work of the entire sector and, especially, that of local companies.

 

For this reason, he hoped that this fair, which has the collaboration of the Xunta, will continue to consolidate in the coming years and will allow us to show the richness of the Galician sea and the culinary possibilities of Galician preserves. At the same time he stressed that this event, which was born in the first year of the pandemic by coronavirus, has already shown its strength and represents important support for the activity of the town council, the O Salnés region and for the families who live in the local processing sector.
