Strategically located 300 kilometers south of Mecca, in the western province of Saudi Arabia, this desalination plant promises to be a key piece to ensure the supply of drinking water to the regions of Makkah Al-Mukarramah and Al-Baha, benefiting a population equivalent to one million inhabitants.
The Ras Mohaisen desalination plant will have a production capacity of 300.000 cubic meters of desalinated water per day. This project not only addresses the growing demand for water in the region but also sets new standards in sustainability and efficiency.
One of the most outstanding features of this infrastructure Its storage capacity is key. The plant will have four desalinated water tanks, with a total capacity of 600.000 cubic meters. This reserve will guarantee a water supply for two full days of operation, which represents a significant advance in water security in the area.
In addition to the desalination plant, the project includes the construction of a new 132/33 kV electrical substation, along with its corresponding overhead transmission line. To improve the sustainability of the facilities, a 30 MW photovoltaic solar plant will be installed, which will help reduce dependence on non-renewable energy sources.
Lantania and L&T will act as turnkey contractors, responsible for the supply, engineering, construction, and commissioning of all plant components. This includes pretreatment, the reverse osmosis process, and post-treatment of the water. They will also be responsible for the construction of the intake and discharge system, the pumping station, and all associated electrical and instrumentation installations.
Lantania's presence in Saudi Arabia:
This new contract strengthens Lantania's presence in Saudi Arabia, where the company has developed important projects in recent years. Recently, Lantania signed an agreement with NOS for the construction of a biosolids treatment plant in Al Badaa.
In 2023, the company completed construction of the Jubail 3A desalination plant, one of the largest of its kind in the world, with a capacity of 600.000 cubic meters of drinking water per day. This facility stood out for its energy efficiency, achieving a world record with a consumption of less than 2,8 kWh/m³.
Lantania has also participated in the project Red Sea, designing and supplying equipment for a wastewater treatment plant. This facility uses a lagoon system with constructed wetlands to treat 16.000 cubic meters of wastewater per day, ensuring water for irrigation.
