In the context of the Spanish economy, the automotive sector as a whole is one of the most important in terms of positive contribution to the foreign sector.
Between January and April 2023 Exports of Spanish automotive equipment and components stood at 9.028 million euros, which represents an interannual growth rate of +26,2%, reflecting the dynamism registered by the foreign sales of the sector.
In the first four months, global activity has performed well thanks to a gradual relaxation in inflationary pressures and a redirection towards normalization in global supply chains. In the context of the Spanish economy, the automotive sector as a whole is one of the most important in terms of positive contribution to the foreign sector.
The European Union is the main trading partner of the sector, with a market share of 72,5% of the total and a figure of 6.548 million euros, which represents an increase of +36,5% compared to the same period in 2022.
In the first four months of 2023, sales of automotive equipment and components have grown in all the main European markets, with double-digit rates. By markets, highlights France, the main commercial partner of the industry, with a figure of 1.722 million euros and an interannual growth rate of +33,8%. Sales to Germany, , our second commercial partner, have grown strongly, with a figure of 1.705 million euros and an increase of +43,4% year-on-year. They follow them Portugal, with a figure of 757 million euros (+20,2%); Italy, with sales of 558 million euros (+43,1%) and Poland, with a figure of 336 million euros (+31,7%).
Out of the European Union, the main destination of exports is United Kingdom, who has registered an increase of +16,3%, reaching a figure of 426 million euros, in contrast to the drop experienced for the same period in 2022 (-11%).
Morocco It rises to second position as a destination for non-EU sales (382 million euros), increasing by +32,9% year-on-year.
On the contrary, sales destined for U.S. have decreased (-23,4% year-on-year), reaching a figure of 303 million euros.
Türkiye has experienced a great improvement, with an interannual rate of +49% (181 million euros) while the chinese market has been reduced to 136 million euros, -35,8% lower than the same quarter of the previous year.
Other relevant markets for Spanish exports are South Africa (+41,8% compared to 2022), Japan (- 5,6%2,8 compared to 2022) or Brazil (-0.3% compared to 2022). Russia, due to existing geopolitical tensions, has suffered a -85% year-on-year decline.
In this context, Mª Begoña Llamazares, Head of Markets at SERNAUTO, points out “Community sales have increased to a greater extent than non-EU exports, reflecting its impact on the dynamism of our industry's foreign trade. The EU market share has increased by more than 5 percentage points compared to the same period in 2022.”
