Business leaders and the Government of Aragon discuss the present and future of strategic sectors.

 

The day «Strategic Sectors in Aragon: Situation and Perspectives«, organized by CEOE Aragón, has become a crucial forum for dialogue between the community's public and private sectors. The event, which took place recently, sought to offer a panoramic view of the Aragonese economic landscape and the opportunities on the horizon.

 

The meeting was opened by Jesus Arnau, general director of CEOE Aragón, and Pilar Alvarez, director for Aragon in HOWDEN Iberia, who welcomed the attendees. Afterwards, Javier MartinezThe Director General of Economic Policy for the Government of Aragon presented a detailed analysis of the region's business climate and the importance of its strategic sectors. Martínez emphasized that "Aragon is experiencing a period of extraordinary growth, with a 2,9% increase in GDP in the first quarter of 2025, exceeding the national average." It is crucial to take advantage of this favorable context through public-private collaboration to make a qualitative and quantitative leap in our economy.. "

 

One of the central moments of the day was the round table, moderated by Luis Humberto Menendez, head of economics at Heraldo de Aragón, where business leaders from different sectors shared their perspectives:

 

  • Clara Harp, CEO of ARPA mobile campaign teams, addressed the industryHe pointed out: “We are years behind in investment, and it is necessary to invest in the defense industry. The defense sector is an industry, with its own characteristics, and there are small and medium-sized companies with potential.” There's a huge opportunity, and we must attract defense companies to Europe. The EU urgently needs to become energy-independent."His speech underlined the need to strengthen this industrial sector and European energy self-sufficiency."

  • Representing the sector of the automotive, Benito TesierTesier, president of the Aragon Automotive and Mobility Cluster (CAAR) and vice president of CEOE Aragon, highlighted the industry's remarkable resilience. He stated: "The automotive sector is demonstrating remarkable resilience, with a 12,6% increase in new car registrations in Spain compared to last year." We highlight the rise of electrification, with a 70% increase in sales of electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles.However, we are concerned about changes in the regulatory framework, which could affect the competitiveness of our companies.

  • Finally, Pedro Machin, president of the Energy Cluster of Aragon (CLENAR), referred to the energy sectorHe stated: “The energy sector in Aragon is growing above the national average, driven by the installation of renewable energy sources. This energy availability is attracting energy-intensive industries, such as data centers, which will further boost the economy.” However, the biggest challenge is the lack of talent; we must strengthen training and attract professionals to sustain this expansion.. "
