Luis Planas and his Ecuadorian counterpart strengthen cooperation in agriculture and agricultural insurance

 

The Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food of Spain, louis planes, met in Madrid with his Ecuadorian counterpart, Danilo Palacios, to explore new avenues of cooperation between the two countries in key areas such as knowledge transfer, irrigation policy and the agricultural insurance system.

 

Planas expressed his best wishes to Ecuador for the upcoming XXIX Ibero-American Summit, which will be held in November under the theme "Innovation, Inclusion and Sustainability"

 

During the meeting, Planas highlighted the 18% increase in Spanish agri-food exports to Ecuador in 2023, which amounted to 156,24 million euros, underlining the importance of fair and rules-based international trade.

 

Planas praised the Free trade agreement between the European Union and Ecuadorconsidering it an "excellent instrument" for facilitating the global exchange of products. Furthermore, the minister explained to Palacios the benefits of the Spanish agricultural insurance system, which has become an international benchmark, and offered the collaboration of the State Entity for Agricultural Insurance (ENESA) to help Ecuador develop this system and strengthen agricultural sector incomes.
