La Madrid Chamber of Commerce has been the headquarters of II Meeting of CIAM-CIAR Working Groups, an event that has brought together important figures from arbitration and the legal field to promote and consolidate the international arbitration in Madrid.

The meeting, held on June 6 and 7 at the Santoña Palace, included the participation of Angel Asensio, President of the Madrid Chamber of Commerce, who has highlighted the institution's proactivity in promoting extrajudicial methods of conflict resolution.

"Controversies are part of the reality of the business world, and knowing how to handle them is an essential part of the proper functioning of our productive structure," Asensio stated.

In this sense, he recalled the creation of the Madrid Court of Arbitration more than 30 years ago and, more recently, from the Madrid International Arbitration Center (CIAM-CIAR), fruit of the alliance with the Ibero-American Arbitration Center.

Over the course of two days, various working group sessions have been held on topics such as insurance, tourism and hotels, the maritime sector, construction and engineering, investment and the banking sector.

The objective has been to address in depth the role of arbitration from a sectoral approach, but also from horizontal perspectives such as arbitrations between states, digital economy, experts and energy.

The Madrid Chamber of Commerce has a long history of promoting arbitration as an effective alternative to judicial means for resolution of conflicts between companies.

The creation of the Madrid Court of Arbitration in 1989 has been an important step in this sense, and the institution has become a reference in the arbitration world thanks to its extensive experience and the relevance of its arbitration clause.
