Madrid is emerging as a key player in the European panorama of data centers, with a projection of 54% growth in its capacity during 2024, according to data from JLL. This increase, which will add more than 160 megawatts, will position the spanish capital as the sixth largest market in Europe in this sector and one of the regions with the fastest growth. The city now competes with traditional hubs such as London, Dublin and Amsterdam, attracting international investments thanks to its strategic location, energy capacity and available space.
La expansion of artificial intelligence (AI) and the increasing use of generative learning tools are driving this boom. Although the Cloud Computing has been dominant in recent years, the demand for infrastructures that can manage the massive amount of data generated by AI is bringing data centers back into the spotlight. According to Savills, significant growth in the construction of these centres in Europe is expected until 2028, in line with the increase in the use of AI, which is expected to grow by 15,9% until 2030.
This panorama will be analyzed in The District 2024, the largest summit in the real estate sector Europe, which will be held from September 25 to 27 in BarcelonaThe conference will feature industry experts such as Francis Rivas, Director of Merlin Properties, and Miguel Ochoa, Head of Strategy, Risk & Transactions – Real Estate at Deloitte Spain, who will discuss the development of data centers and the energy challenges presented by this expanding asset.
This rapid growth puts Madrid in a prime position to attract investment in a booming market, diversifying its role within the European technological ecosystem.
