The Minister of Economy and Industry, Maria Jesus Lorenzana, attended the SMM Hamburg 2024, the most important of the naval sector at international level, accompanied by a delegation of more than 50 Galician companies. Lorenzana highlighted that Galicia leads the Spanish representation with the largest delegation, made up of 65 companies. She underlined the growth of the Galician naval sector, which increased its turnover by 15% in 2023, reaching 1.031 million euros, and generating 3,5% more employment, adding a total of 8.234 workers.
Of the half a hundred Galician companies participating thanks to the support of the Economic Institute of Galicia (Igape), 24 of them have their own exhibitor, as do Asime and Aclunaga
The regional minister highlighted the sector's ability to "diversify and incorporate innovation," which has enabled its current success. She also announced that the Xunta de Galicia is working on a master plan for the naval sector, which will be approved before the end of the year, with the aim of continuing to support companies, facilitating access to European funds and encouraging expansion into new markets.
Lorenzana stressed that the Galician government will continue "intensifying support where it is most needed" in order to continue promoting growth and innovation in the Galician shipbuilding industry.
