The value of the transaction exceeds $7.000 billion
The Marsans Group has purchased 73 aircraft from the European manufacturer Airbus, four of which are the A380 supergiant, two for Air Comet and two for Aerolíneas Argentinas, sources from the Spanish tourism group told Efe.
The deal is worth over $7.000 billion (€4.941 billion) and the entire new fleet will be used for flights to Latin America by Air Comet and Aerolíneas Argentinas.
These two airlines are the first with Spanish capital to acquire the A380.
This model, the world's largest passenger plane, can carry between 555 and 800 people, depending on the cabin configuration.
The new additions to the Marsans Group airlines include, apart from the four A380s, ten A350s, 42 A320s and five A330s, in addition to the twelve aircraft of the latter model acquired in December 2006.
The delivery of this new order will take place between 2008 and 2014.
The purchase agreement was signed in Madrid, at an event presided over by the president and co-president of the Marsans Group, Gonzalo Pascual and Gerardo Díaz Ferrán, respectively, and on behalf of Airbus, the global Commercial Director, John J. Leahy, and the general manager for Latin America and Spain, Rafael Alonso.
Sources in the aviation sector told Efe that if the purchase of Spanair by the two owners of Marsans goes through, part of this fleet, especially the medium and short-haul aircraft, could be transferred to it.
