In 2006 the country hosted 150 international congresses
The Secretary of Tourism, Rodolfo Elizondo Torres, will seek to promote Mexico as the ideal destination for holding congresses and conventions, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur) for this purpose.
During a working tour of Chicago, Illinois, USA, Elizondo met with the region's main wholesalers, tour operators and media outlets.
The official highlighted that in 2006, 150 international congresses were held in Mexico, compared to 14 in 2003.
It is estimated that the growth in Mexico of the congress, convention, incentive travel and trade fair segment will be 5.2% annually for the next 10 years, while on a global scale the expected rate will be 3.1%.
