Eduardo Sojo, Mexico's Minister of Economy, recently reached an agreement with the Indian government to strengthen trade between the two countries and protect mutual investments. To this end, executives from the Asian and American countries signed two agreements.
The documents, signed by Sojo and his Indian counterpart, Chidambaram, include provisions for promotion and protection by both sides to ensure that "Indian investments in Mexico feel more secure, and vice versa," the Mexican minister explained to the EFE news agency. Over the next decade, during which the agreement will be in effect, Mexico and India intend to create favorable conditions for increased bilateral investment flows. Trade between the two countries grew from approximately $350 million in 2000 to nearly $1.800 billion in 2006.
