The agreement could be finalized next week.
María de Lourdes Aranda, Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs in Mexico, and the Spanish ambassador to Mexico, Carmelo Angulo, announced that both nations are preparing a memorandum of cooperation on migration matters, through which temporary work could be offered to Mexican professionals in the European country.
Both officials indicated that negotiations for this agreement could conclude next week, during the Eighth Meeting of the Binational Commission to be held in Madrid.
According to Undersecretary Aranda, a pilot program would be launched for 2007 and 2008, through which job offers in Spain would be published in Mexico so that Mexicans could travel to work there.
Aranda clarified that this agreement does not stem from a migration problem between the two countries, an opinion shared by Ambassador Angulo, who pointed out that the migration agreement would offer jobs that are "hard to fill" in Spain.
