– Since this is the first time the Latin American Free Trade Zone Conference is being held in Spain, why Cádiz and what will this city offer compared to previous venues?
Not only is this the first time it has been held in Spain, but Cádiz has the honor of hosting this important forum for the first time it has taken place outside the Americas. It's worth noting that although Cádiz is the smallest of Spain's free trade zones, its experience and long-standing presence in trade relations with the Americas are a significant advantage. Cádiz has always been closely linked to the other side of the Atlantic, both historically and economically. We mustn't forget that our geographical location is strategic.
The city of Cádiz was chosen to host the event during the 5th Free Trade Zones Conference held in Panama last August. There were other bids, but fortunately, when we presented ours, it was chosen unanimously.

Furthermore, the Cádiz Free Trade Zone has always worked diligently to foster trade relations with the Americas. This relationship has become even closer since 1998, when the Cádiz Consortium launched the Ibero-American Logistics and Trade Network (RILCO), a transnational e-commerce platform that greatly facilitates foreign trade operations via the Internet. RILCO already boasts a large number of partners from various Ibero-American entities who are benefiting from the services currently offered by the portal www.rilco.org.
Our primary objective in organizing this business forum is to act as the standard-bearers of Europe in the Americas and vice versa. Cádiz must be the gateway and bridge between Europe and the Americas. We want Latin America to see us as a friendly free trade zone they can rely on within the European Union, and likewise, we want Spanish companies to see us as a valuable partner when they invest in the Americas. Undoubtedly, the meeting in October will attract a significant number of representatives from companies and organizations from both continents to our city and will serve, among other things, to strengthen trade ties between our two countries and encourage investment.
– The most notable advantages of free trade zones in Latin America will be presented during the conference. What are the most notable advantages of the Free Trade Zone of Cádiz?
I must reiterate our strategic location and our experience in trade operations with the Americas. Another of our advantages, as I have also mentioned before, is the Ibero-American Logistics and Trade Network, which greatly streamlines and reduces costs in foreign trade operations, in addition to offering diverse information and a wide range of services to users.
Furthermore, the Free Trade Zone of Cádiz, like the other two Spanish free trade zones, offers customs and tax advantages that can benefit companies engaged in foreign trade operating within our tax area.
– To what extent are business meetings with investors, partners or clients facilitated?
The 6th Latin American Free Trade Zone Conference will offer attendees a golden opportunity to receive valuable information on companies, legislation, free trade zones, and more, while also fostering networking and business opportunities. We have subtitled the conference with a phrase that perfectly encapsulates the event's objective: A Business Forum for Investment and Trade between Europe and the Americas.
It should be noted that, according to forecasts, the congress will bring together some 300 representatives from organizations across both continents in Cádiz. During the three-day event, there will be conferences by specialists on a variety of topics related to free trade zones, logistics operators, businesses, and investors. Information will also be provided on European Union aid for investment in Latin America, the new WTO guidelines, and the FTAA development process.
But the 6th Conference doesn't stop there. We've organized a series of parallel activities, and during that week, any interested participant will have the opportunity to meet with anyone they consider relevant to their company or organization. At the same time, participants have the opportunity to showcase their products, facilities, or services in an exhibition area, which will undoubtedly also foster networking opportunities between companies.
