Extenda, the new Andalusian Agency for Foreign Promotion, is born.

CdeA, the Andalusian Products Marketing Agency, has changed its name to Extenda. The new Andalusian Foreign Trade Promotion Agency will continue to offer advice and tools for internationalization in a region where foreign trade continues to grow steadily.

CdeA was created in 1985 with the main objective of boosting the marketing of Andalusian products in the national market and some foreign markets. Andalusia has grown at a breakneck pace over the last ten years, during which its GDP has increased by more than 41% and its exports have tripled.

This situation has ultimately led to a change in the promotional agency, adapting it to the new landscape of Andalusian foreign trade. Thus, last April, the new identity of the public company attached to the Ministry of Economy and Finance was unveiled; it is now called the Andalusian Agency for Foreign Promotion, EXTENDA.

The change is not solely and exclusively due to the adoption of a new name, but rather to adapting to an economic process that the Community, and its companies, are experiencing, seeking to expand their sales in other international markets.

EXTENDA will provide direct trade promotion services, support for internationalization, and foreign investment. It has its own network of 12 Business Promotion Units, strategically located in markets offering the greatest opportunities for Andalusian companies, and provides a wide range of information and training services. In 2002, it carried out 323 activities involving 4.534 companies from all productive sectors.

The most representative sectors in the Andalusian international context are the agri-food sector, with its star product, olive oil; followed by sweet peppers, fresh tomatoes, strawberries, olives and cucumbers and, in smaller quantities, zucchini, Jerez wine, melons, carnations, Jerez brandy, oranges, avocados and watermelon.

Almería and Sevilla are the provinces that account for the majority of total exportable production.

As for the main destinations for Andalusian exports, European Union countries predominate (80% of trade). Other notable markets include the United States, Japan, and Mexico.

Hungary has also emerged strongly during the last year, since trade relations with this country increased following the opening of the Hungarian Consulate of Andalusia in Malaga.
