This event, considered a work event, took place on slipway number 3 of the shipyard, where the main block was placed with the help of cranes, formally starting the construction of the ship.
The ceremony was attended by the Moroccan Navy's Major Colonel, Mohammed Sallouh, who was received by the president of Navantia, Ricardo Dominguez, along with other company executives, such as Gonzalo Mateo-Guerrero, Director of Operations and Business, and Alberto Cervantes, Director of Business for Corvettes and Maritime Action Vessels. The working team headed by Antonio Garcia Molina, program director.
The patrol boat, which will be the 565th construction of Navantia San Fernando, will be 87 metres long, 13 metres wide and will be able to accommodate 60 people on board. Its construction represents a significant economic boost for the shipyard, as it is estimated that it will generate more than one million hours of work and create around 1.100 direct, indirect and induced jobs over the next three years.
This vessel will not only strengthen the operational capacity of the Royal Moroccan Navy, but will also have a technical-logistical support package, including spare parts, tools and technical training of personnel in Spain. The design of the patrol vessel has been conceived to guarantee long deployments at sea, minimising operational and life cycle costs, with systems that ensure operability and reliability with a reduced crew.
The collaboration between Navantia and the Royal Moroccan Navy continues strongly, following the visit of Rear Admiral Mohamed Tahin last January, who supervised the progress of the project.
