The Spanish Government, through the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, has announced a significant increase in investment aimed at improving the infrastructure of the province of Cadiz. According to the minister Óscar Puente, during the year 2024 have been executed 142 millones de euros, which represents more than double the 63 million invested in 2017. This increase is part of a sustained commitment to improve logistics and transportation conditions in the region.
Puente stressed that "this pace of investment will not stop," emphasizing that in the last six years, works have been tendered for more than 875 millones de euros, with an annual average that is almost six times the levels recorded in 2017. Among the most notable initiatives is the substantial improvement planned for the state road network, with projects valued at more than 250 million.
A crucial part of the plan is the development of the Port of Cadiz, where it is planned to invest 200 million between 2024 and 2028. This investment includes the second phase of the New Container Terminal, whose completion is projected for mid-2026. With an estimated economic injection of 58 million, this expansion will allow to manage up to 350.000 containers per year and will facilitate a significant reconfiguration of the port towards a more efficient and sustainable model.
The railway access The new port at Bajo de la Cabezuela will be put into service during the second half of 2025, which will significantly boost both port operations and local economic development. In this context, Puente stated that “the Port’s strengths must translate into a sustainable and prosperous future for its citizens.”
Finally, intensive work is also being done to improve access to the port through a road tunnel valued at 23,5 million, which is scheduled to be completed by the end of this year. These efforts reflect a clear commitment to positioning Cádiz as a key logistics hub within the intercontinental maritime panorama.
