Pontevedra lowers the curtain on the best Multisport World Championship in History

After an intense day that culminated with the presentation of medals to the elite and age group world champions of the Long Distance Triathlon, the closing ceremony concluded ten days of uninterrupted competition. The championship was highlighted by a record number of almost 4.000 athletes from 44 countries, with a notable female participation 31 %, the highest in the history of these World Cups.

From June 20th, Pontevedra was the epicenter of various disciplines, including sprint and standard duathlon, triathlon and cross duathlon, aquathlon, long-distance triathlon, and aquabike. The closing gala not only awarded medals to the long-distance and aquabike winners but also paid tribute to the twenty "Legends," athletes who managed to complete all the championship events.

The event was attended and featured words by the mayor Miguel Anxo Fernandez Lores, the president of the Spanish Triathlon Federation, José Hidalgo, and the vice president of World Triathlon, Antonio Álvarez. The highlight was the presentation of the World Triathlon flag to the representatives of Abu Dhabi, the next venue for the 2026 Multisport on the island of Hudayriyat.

The evening concluded with a musical highlight by former local triathlete Javier Gómez Noya and his band Liorta, followed by a vibrant performance by Broken Peach on the Plaza de España stage.

The success of the Pontevedra 2025 Multisport World Cup is the result of the joint work of the Spanish Triathlon Federation, World Triathlon and the City of Pontevedra, with the valuable support of the Pontevedra Provincial Council and the Galician Regional Government. After hosting the Multisport World Championships in 2019 and the World Series Grand Final in 2023, Pontevedra is consolidating its position as a top-tier destination for triathlon, and is already preparing to once again host the World Series Final in 2026.
