The economist and Nobel Prize 2024, Daron Acemoglu, along with more than twenty international leaders, will be the star guest of the second edition of the congress Vigo Global Summit.
During the presentation of the congress, David Regades, State delegate in the Free Zone, highlighted the importance of the participation of Acemoglu, one of the most influential economists worldwide. Acemoglu, recognized for his research on the role of institutions in the prosperity of nations and his work Why Nations Fail, has placed democracy, innovation, and equity at the center of public debate.
Regades emphasized the Consortium's focus on the technological revolution and productive transformation. "Digitalization, automation, artificial intelligence, and robotics are radically changing how we produce, organize work, and lead companies," he stated. In this context, the delegate highlighted local projects such as the VgoTIC Global HUB and the photonic chip plant SPARC, which have positioned Vigo as a leader in technological employment in Spain.
A Forum to Analyze Geopolitical and Economic Challenges
The conference program will focus on geopolitics and the new world order, analyzing how wars and trade tensions affect logistics chains and marketing. Participating experts include Alicia Garcia-Herrero, chief economist of Natixis Asia Pacific; Brian Wong, a political strategist specializing in China; and María Lorca-Susino, PhD in Economics.
“We are aware that our role is not only to develop industrial land and promote foreign trade, but also to anticipate and lead the geoeconomic transformation,” Regades stated. The event aims to prepare the business community and society for the challenges of the next decade, from the energy transition to the redefinition of international alliances.
For its part, the president of the Free Trade Zone, Carmela SilvaShe congratulated the organizers on the innovative and international nature of the congress. "Vigo will be at the center of the global conversation about the challenges we face," she said, and highlighted the prominent participation of women leaders in the program.
The Vigo Global Summit 2025 will feature the strategic collaboration of the Association for Management Progress (APD) and the support of Stellantis & You as the official vehicle.
