Three conferences on personal data protection in the use of disruptive and potentially invasive technologies with respect to privacy and intimacy, aimed at IoT (July 5), Big Data (July 12) and Artificial Intelligence (July 19).

Currently, we are faced with a new paradigm in the collection, analysis and exploitation of personal data:
Advancement of the data economy or digital economy (which is based on the value of data as an economic good) versus the traditional economic vision.
New informational and communication scenario: Today, 80% of data is processed and stored on traditional computers and CPD's and 20% on smart devices. This panorama will be reversed in the next five years, so that 80% will be new devices (mobile phones, industrial machines connected to the wearable internet, health devices such as implants, pacemakers and digital pills for monitoring, brain/computer interfaces, brainwave headbands, home devices, vehicles, connected buildings…).
Data is the cornerstone of the knowledge society: Everything is “dataified”, which makes data that was not visible before, and this data is also monetized.
In just a few years, we have gone from processing only data voluntarily provided by the interested party to these being just the tip of the iceberg, with the volume of data not provided by the interested party being much greater and which they do not even know is being processed:
The “observed” data of your digital footprint via cookies or geolocation
Data “derived” mechanically from other data of that subject, (eg average amount that a person spends on an e-commerce website).
Data “inferred” or obtained from an analytical process (eg artificial intelligence solutions, information on the reliability of repaying a loan or risk of developing a disease)
Solutions for massive data collection and data analytics have exponentially improved the amount and type of data to be collected and its massive and immediate exploitation. Its use is becoming popular among companies to improve decision making by generating profiles or predictions that allow directing individual and collective behaviors, recording the evolution of trends, creating patterns...
The training sessions proposed aim to make visible the importance of the protection of personal data in the design, management, treatment and use of these technologies, both from the point of view of the developing companies and the users.
The era of Data Governance
The European Commission has defined a strategy to achieve a European digital single market with a solid legal framework based on risk management and with particular concern for privacy and security. The key to the success of these more invasive technologies lies in the trust of the user of these systems and of the people whose personal data will be processed, so that the solutions that capture, analyze and exploit this data in a massive way are reliable.
In the coming years, a very important legislative development is expected to provide legal support for this strategy, seeking to balance the protection of privacy, security and ethics:
The proposed e-privacy regulation (respect for privacy and data protection in the electronic communications sector)
The proposed regulation on data governance
Different proposals for regulations on civil liability for the operation of AI systems and on ethical principles for the development, use and deployment of AI systems, robotics and related technologies
All of these future regulations are based on an approach based on risk and its proactive management, which we will present in these sessions. This cycle of sessions is made up of three sessions, which you can sign up for independently:
