The European beef sector attends, from October 15 to 19, SIAL Paris, one of the largest agri-food fairs in the International panorama, showing some of its most notable competitive strengths, such as high parameters in quality, traceability, food safety, animal welfare and commitment to sustainability.

It was the starting point for the launch of the strategy Carbon Neutral Beef 2050, with the aim of achieving climate neutrality for the sector by that year. PROVACUNO, within this strategy, has deployed a Code of Good Environmental Practices, prepared by a group of 17 researchers from 7 research centers belonging to the Remedia Network, as a cornerstone of the aforementioned strategy.

European Beef companies are managing to position their products in the major non-EU destinations of the Southeast Asia, Middle East, or America. In this way, the beef sector not only creates economic value for Europe, but also contributes to establishing population in rural areas, minimizing the exodus from the countryside to the cities, by generating employment in areas at risk of depopulation.
European model: the most demanding in the world
PROVACUNO highlights the enormous efforts of an increasingly modern and professionalized sector, which responds to new consumer demands while also aiming to contribute as a key player to achieving the goals set by the EU in the "Green Deal" and "Farm to Fork" strategies.
In Spain, the beef sector comprises 115.000 farms – 40% of which are located in municipalities at risk of depopulation – 5,8 million head of cattle, 238 industries, 718.000 tons produced annually with a value exceeding 3.000 billion euros, and more than 132.000 direct jobs, according to the report "Analysis of the Spanish Beef Sector," presented by PROVACUNO in June 2022. This is the largest and most comprehensive analysis to date, highlighting the essential role of this sector in the rural economy and in the fight against depopulation.
