El Port of Algeciras is positioned at the forefront of port innovation, demonstrating how the artificial intelligence (AI) and digitalization are revolutionizing the efficiency and sustainability of maritime transport. During the international congress MARLOG 14 in Alexandria, Egypt, Gerardo Landaluce, president of the Port Authority of the Bay of Algeciras (APBA), highlighted the practical advances that are optimising port operations, from container traffic to fuel supply and RORO transport.
Landaluce highlighted the importance of digitalisation and AI in several key areas of the port:

Container Traffic:
- Stopover times and operations are being optimized through solutions such as Port Collaborative Decision Making, applied to the Maersk Group's Gemini project.
- Fuel Supply Sector (Bunkering):
- AI enables more efficient management of this essential service.
- RORO traffic (Trucks):
- Waiting times are being reduced, resulting in a significant improvement in the fluidity of the Strait Passage.

MARLOG 14, organised by the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport, brings together international experts to explore the transformative impact of AI on maritime transport and logistics.
AI's ability to analyze large amounts of data, predict outcomes and optimize operations is driving improvements in:

- Automation of load handling.
- Supply chain efficiency.
- Reducing the carbon footprint.
