Puerto Rico offers a "historic opportunity" to Spanish companies and investors

Omar Marrero, Secretary of State of Puerto Rico, spoke at the business meeting organized by the Chamber of Spain, the Secretary of State for Commerce, through ICEX Spain Exportation and Investments and CEOE.

The Secretary of State of Puerto Rico, Omar Marrero, has reiterated the opportunities that the country offers to Spanish companies and investors, highlighting the role of the government as "facilitator of the private sector".

In his speech before twenty Spanish companies in MadridMarrero has stated that Puerto Rico offers a "historic opportunity" for businesses, with a model in which the private sector is the protagonist.

The Secretary of State highlighted the "good metrics and indicators that reflect a significant advance in the economy" in terms of fiscal policy, debt restructuring, and improved employment figures.

Specifically, Puerto Rico's GDP in fiscal year 2022 reached 113.434 million dollars, with a real growth of 3,3%. For the first time in almost two decades, GDP has grown for two consecutive years (2021 and 2022).

economic and social demonstrated by Spanish companies established in Puerto Rico

 

 

The unemployment rate has also registered a downward trend, ending 2022 at 6%.

From the Spanish Chamber of Commerce José Luis Bonet, has assured that “Puerto Rico is

establishing itself as a preferred partner for Spain”, and recalled the strong commitment

economic and social demonstrated by the more than 50 Spanish companies established in Puerto Rico

Bonet also reaffirmed the interest detected by the Spanish Chamber of Commerce, from "our respective business communities, to increase the volume of business in both directions."

Isabel Rata, SG Ibero-America and North America of the Secretary of State for CommerceHe assured that "institutional relations continue to be in a particularly good place."

For her part, the President of CEOE International Marta Blanco, has referred to the possibilities to increase and strengthen business cooperation between Spain and Puerto Rico.

"Spanish companies have a lot to offer and contribute," Blanco emphasized.
