La Operation Strait Crossing 2024 closed its most successful edition this Sunday, registering a total of 847.429 vehicles between June 13 and September 15, representing an increase of 9,3% compared to 2023.
In terms of passengers, recorded the crossing of 3.442.770 people, 6,9% more than the previous year, consolidating the Operation Strait crossing as the largest movement of people between Europe and Africa over a three-month period. According to the data provided, the number of ship rotations also experienced an increase of 8,4%, reaching 12.012 operations.
Detailed planning, coordinated by the General Directorate of Civil Protection and Emergencies of the Ministry of the InteriorThis allowed for a smooth and safe flow of traffic, without any significant incidents. "The operation was carried out effectively thanks to the coordination between the agencies involved and the collaboration of the various administrations," sources from the Ministry stated.
The operation, which has been organized since 1986, is one of the most complex logistical operations between two continents, involving various entities such as the General Directorate of Traffic, State Ports, the General Directorate of the Merchant Navy, and the General Directorate of Public Health, among others.
