Murcia Region protects wine exports to the U.S. with expert mission to combat tariffs

 

The regional government of Murcia has intensified its strategy to strengthen the export of wines to United States, its main importing market, compared to tariff challenges.

 

In 2024, wine exports from the Region of Murcia exceeded 166 million euros, being The United States is the main destination with more than 25 million euros.This trend continues in the first two months of 2025, with sales to the US reaching €23,4 million.

 

The counselor Marisa López Aragón He highlighted the importance of this initiative to "strengthen our strategy to boost wine exports in the face of tariff challenges." He emphasized that the region was the sixth largest wine-exporting province in Spain last year and that the participation of experts "whose knowledge and credibility build consumer confidence can be a powerful strategy to promote the export of regional products."

 

La trade missionThe event, which will take place the first week of June, will feature eight professionals from the Horeca sector, retailers, and specialized journalists. These experts will visit 17 wineries from the region's three appellations of origin: Jumilla, Yecla and Bullas.

 

The event will begin on June 3 with a tasting led by prestigious sommelier Ferrán Centelles, a former member of the elBulli sommelier team. The experts will then tour wineries such as Xenixel, Parajes del Valle, Alceño, Juan Gil, and Luzón in Jumilla; Castaño, La Purísima, and Barahonda in Yecla; and Del Rosario, Balcona, and Pura Viña in Bullas.

 

Among the participants are renowned sommeliers and hospitality professionals such as Gretchen Buck, Chris Havens and Peter Granoff, as well as specialized journalists Kathleen Willcox and Pam Strayer.

 

This initiative is part of the Info Internationalization Plan, in collaboration with the region's Chambers of Commerce and co-financed with ERDF funds.
