The multi-energy company Repsol has announced the start of electricity production in Antofagasta Phase 1, its largest wind farm to date and one of the largest in Chile. Strategically located in the commune of Taltal, in the Antofagasta region, the complex has a total installed capacity of 364 MW.
This milestone marks the first renewable energy project developed entirely by Repsol in the country, following a investment close to 400 million eurosAntofagasta Phase 1 is expected to enter commercial operation in the coming weeks, generating annually about 750 GW/h, enough energy to supply the average consumption of approximately 220.000 Chilean households.
The launch of Antofagasta Phase 1 represents a significant step forward in consolidating its position as a key player in the transition to a more sustainable energy model.
The construction of the wind farm was completed in record time. 19 months, which underlines Repsol's commitment to the development of clean energy in the region.
In the same line of expansion of its renewable capacity in Chile, Repsol plans to develop the Phase 2 of the Antofagasta project, which will add approximately 450 MW to its green asset portfolio.
It is worth remembering that Repsol already has a presence in the Chilean renewable energy market through the a joint venture Repsol Ibereólica Renewables Chile, in which it holds a 50% stake together with the Ibereólica Renovables Group. This company operates the wind farms Cabo Leones III (188 MW) y Atacama (166 MW), both located in the Huasco province, in the Atacama Desert. Unlike these, Antofagasta Phase 1 and its future Phase 2 are 100% owned by Repsol.
The development of renewable generation projects is one of the fundamental pillars of Repsol's energy transition strategy. The company currently operates nearly 4.000 MW of renewable energy globally and has an ambitious portfolio of projects in various stages of development that amounts to 60.000 MW.
