Repsol YPF's Argentine subsidiary won the award for the largest exporter in the South American country for the seventeenth time, an award given annually by the Ministry of Economy and the Foreign Ministry of Argentina, the company itself reported.
The award was received by Alejandro Luchetta, YPF's Director of Trading and Transportation for Latin America. Last year, the company exported €1,940 billion (US$2.691 billion), making it Argentina's largest exporter.
"This leadership in Argentine foreign trade is complemented by the investments the company made in 2006, for 1,153 billion euros (around 1.600 billion dollars) and by its important contribution to the collection of the Argentine State and the provinces, which meant a contribution to the treasury of 11.976 billion pesos (2.715 billion euros)," the company highlighted in its statement.
Of the total exports made by YPF during 2006, 79% corresponded to petroleum products processed in the firm's refineries in Argentina, while 21% corresponded to commodities (crude oil and natural gas).
YPF exports its fuels mainly to countries such as Mexico, Paraguay, Chile and the United States.
