La DOCa Rioja has deployed a strategic promotional offensive in North America, a key market for its international business. The agenda was divided into two key actions: one in United States and another one in to Canada, both intended to boost the visibility and prestige of the Denomination.
Exclusive meeting with influential press in New York
A delegation from Rioja, headed by the President of the Regulatory Council, Raquel Pérez Cuevas, and the Director of Marketing and Communication, Iñigo Tapiador, met in New York to hold an exclusive meeting with 13 media of great influence in the U.S. The paired dinner, held at the prestigious restaurant Trading, served as a platform to talk with directors and editors of titles such as CNN, W, Wine Enthusiast and the magazine Rolling Stone.
During the event, they tasted 10 references from Rioja, including sparkling wines, rosés, and various styles of whites and reds. Attendees highlighted the enormous quality and diversity of the wines, as well as their versatility to pair with the sophisticated gastronomic proposal.
The events, which included an exclusive meeting with influential journalists in the US and a major centenary celebration in Canada with the Quebec state monopoly (SAQ), underline the sustained growth and high profile of Rioja wines across the Atlantic.
The president Pérez Cuevas He thanked the media for their support, highlighting that the DOCa Rioja is the Designation of Origin with the greatest brand recognition y the most commercialized among Spanish wines in the U.S. Despite the challenges, the president was clear about the relevance of this market:
«The tariffs that the US administration has imposed are an obstacle that will not stop our efforts in this market, which is strategic and essential for us.«.
This action is added to other initiatives already carried out, such as the collaboration with the luxury magazine Robb report in May and future activities later this year on the West Coast, aimed at the end consumer and increasing visibility at points of sale.
Grand Centennial Celebration in Montreal with the SAQ
The success continued in to Canada, Specifically Montreal (Quebec), where Rioja commemorated its centenary with the event “100 Years of Rioja: A Grand Celebration!”This large-scale meeting, organized in collaboration with the Quebec's state beverage monopoly, SAQ (Société des Alcohols du Québec), brought together around 400 wine lovers.
A total of 25 Rioja wineries were present with their own space, offering attendees a tasting of 78 references that showed the diversity of the Denomination, including Village and Single Vineyard Wines.
Representatives of the SAQ, such as Katrina Quesnel, Category Manager of wines, they emphasized the predominant role of Rioja in the Quebec market, where represents more than a third of Spanish wines marketed, and their 6% growth in the last 12 months (compared to 1.4% of Spanish wines in general).
Quesnel stated that “The strong sales growth confirms the excellent relationship between Quebec and this unique Appellation of Origin.” and praised the choice of Montreal for the celebration: “It is the perfect opportunity to showcase the diversity of the terroir, as well as the variety of wineries and styles emerging in the region.”.
