The SAPARD Programme, the Special Pre-Accession Programme for Agriculture and Rural Development, continues to be the main driver of the spectacular development of the food industry in Romania over the past 18 months. It is worth noting that this programme invests approximately €300 million annually in the agri-food, forestry, and agricultural sectors for their modernization and restructuring in preparation for Romania's future accession to the EU.
The processing industry sector (dairy and dairy products, wine, meat, fish, etc.) deserves special mention, as non-repayable grants can reach up to two million euros per company, regardless of whether they are for modernization projects or new investments. This program is therefore attracting many multinational agri-food companies that have made Romania their base in Eastern Europe.
