Sacyr expands its presence in Chile with the operation of the Atacama Airport

 

The consortium formed by Sacyr Concessions (70%) and Cointer (30%) has officially started the operation of the Atacama Desert Airport, located in Caldera, ChileThis initiative is part of a broader contract awarded by the Chilean Ministry of Public Works last September, which also includes the airport Antofagasta within the Northern Airport NetworkThe concession has a maximum duration of 26 years and contemplates an approximate investment of 260 million euros for both airports.

 

With this new contract, Sacyr expands its management to five airports in Chile. The project involves not only the expansion but also the improvement and maintenance of the airport to respond to the growing annual flow that already exceeds 720.000 passengers. Construction is expected to begin in 2027 and the new facilities will be operational by 2030.

 

 

This expansion reaffirms Sacyr's ongoing and strategic commitment to Chile as a key market within the Latin American sphere.

 

 

The planned improvements include an expansion of the terminal to 18.274 square metres, the addition of four boarding bridges – a first for this facility – and an increase in the number of parking spaces for commercial aircraft, from three to five.

 

Since arriving in Chile in 1996 with the contract to build and operate the highway Los Vilos-La SerenaSacyr has been a key player in the Chilean concession sector. It currently manages significant projects including five airports, nine concessioned routes, seven hospitals and various concessions related to the entire water cycle.

 

The company is present in 14 of the 16 Chilean regions and generates more than 4.500 direct jobs, adapting to local needs with the stated objective of improving the quality of life regionally.
