Salvador Illa inaugurates BNEW 2024, the most disruptive event of the new economy

The fifth edition of the Barcelona New Economy Week (BNEW 2024) has started this October 7 with the presence of the president of the Generalitat of Catalonia, Salvador Illa, who presided over the opening ceremony, accompanied by important figures such as the Minister of Industry and Tourism, Jordi Hereu; the deputy mayor of Barcelona, Jordi Valls; the special delegate of the Consorci de la Barcelona Free Trade Zone (CZFB), Pere Navarro, and its general director, Blanca Sorigué.

In his speech, Salvador Illa highlighted the international standing the event has achieved: "BNEW has already made a name for itself in Catalonia, Spain, and throughout the international network," also emphasizing the importance of DFactory Barcelona as a space for innovation.

Blanca Sorigué He highlighted BNEW's evolution in just five editions: "We have become the world's leading event for the new economy, with professionals from 106 countries in attendance." Pere Navarro, for his part, emphasized the key role of technology and talent at the event: "Technology, innovation, and talent will converge at DFactory Barcelona, the cathedral of Industry 4.0, to build the future."

The event, which will run until October 10, features seven verticals that address key issues for global digital transformation, such as digital industry, mobility and sustainability.

One of the highlights was the session on the European Artificial Intelligence Law, which seeks to regulate the use of this technology with an ethical approach and protection of rights. In addition, the role of the Barcelona Free Trade Zone in digital transformation was discussed, with its goal of becoming District 4.0, an international benchmark in Industry 4.0.

The sustainability vertical also had its space, where progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals was analyzed (ODS) of the 2030 Agenda, highlighting the need to accelerate technological and social advances to achieve them.

BNEW 2024 is establishing itself as a crucial meeting point for innovation and the development of the new economy.
