El Banco Santander celebrates a decade of operations in Colombia, consolidating its leadership in the financial sector and its commitment to the country's development. Since its arrival, it has disbursed more than COP $64 billion in financing, which has allowed it to promote large business and infrastructure projects, as well as contributing to the transformation of the stock market and the growth of key sectors such as energy and infrastructure.
Martha Isabel Woodcock, President of Santander Bank Colombia, highlighted the achievements made during these ten years: “Our commitment has been clear: to build a long-term history of high contribution to progress. Today we celebrate with our more than 120.000 clients and 1.100 employees a decade of generating tangible results for the country and its regions.” In addition, he underlined the entity's mission to continue being allies of the current and future growth of companies and people in Colombia.
The Santander Group has invested more than USD $265 million in capital in Colombia, to fulfill its promise of promoting companies, institutions and people in a responsible and sustainable way.
Among the most notable milestones, Santander has led 25 structured financing operations, with a value of more than USD $11.000 billion, in addition to participating in more than 15 road and energy infrastructure projects. These include the development of 700 km of roads and the generation of 250 MW of power, along with the installation of 350 km of power transmission lines.
The bank has also been key in the sustainable financing, closing the first quarter of 2024 with COP $268.090 million in sustainable portfolio, representing a growth of 110% compared to the same period of the previous year. “We firmly believe that the progress of our societies requires responsible banking that accompanies and drives business transformation,” added Woodcock.
Santander has allocated more than COP $3 billion in credit lines for infrastructure and renewable energy sectors, in addition to providing COP $340 billion in loans for public projects and COP $350 billion for the agricultural sector since 2023. Likewise, through its Prospera microfinance line, it has provided COP $600.000 billion in loans to more than 141.000 microentrepreneurs and farmers.
In the educational field, Santander has invested more than 2,5 million euros in university scholarships since 2002, reinforcing its commitment to quality education in Colombia.
