In the framework of the recent meeting of the Construction Industry Commission de SERNAUTO, held on March 10, 2025 in Madrid, the leaders of the Spanish automotive sector met to discuss vehicle production forecasts for next year. The meeting was attended by experts from S&P Global Mobility, who presented a detailed overview of the current and future dynamics of the global automotive market.
Denis Schemoul, Director of Light Vehicle Production Forecasting for EMEA, and Giuseppe Emanuele Fanigliulo, Associate Director of Business Development at S&P Global Mobility, highlighted the consolidation of China as the undisputed leader in vehicle production, while Europe experienced significant declines in the last year. By 2025, global production is expected to remain stable, although with regional variations: declines in EMEA and North America, and growth in China and other emerging markets.
In the specific case of Spain, the data presented by S&P Global Mobility coincide with the estimates of other associations in the sector, anticipating a significant drop in vehicle production. This decrease is largely attributed to the dependence on exports within the European Union already reduced demand in certain key markets.
"Economic uncertainty and the transition to more sustainable mobility are impacting both vehicle production and demand, affecting the competitiveness of the entire supply chain," he stated. Jose Jaime Cruzado, president of the Construction Industry Commission of SERNAUTO. "It is essential that public administrations implement effective and coordinated measures to incentivize the renewal of the vehicle fleet, support investment in innovation, and guarantee a stable and competitive regulatory framework. Only in this way can we maintain our leading position in the sector and our export capacity in an increasingly challenging global context."
The “SERNAUTO Data” tool offers updated information on registrations, active fleet and vehicle production in more than 25 markets
The more than 40 companies that make up the Construction Industry Commission of SERNAUTO share these concerns and estimate that national production will follow a trend similar to the forecasts presented. However, greater stability is observed in production volumes in Portugal and Morocco compared to previous years.
To facilitate informed decision-making, SERNAUTO provides its members with the "SERNAUTO Data" tool, which offers up-to-date information on vehicle registrations, active fleet and production in more than 25 markets, broken down by brand and model.
Given this situation, SERNAUTO reiterates the need to strengthen public-private collaboration to implement measures that boost demand and reactivate vehicle production. The association proposes a long-term country strategy that encourages the purchase of vehicles with more efficient and sustainable technologies, thus promoting innovation, the reduction of emissions and the improvement of road safety.
SERNAUTO also advocates for a stable, competitive and harmonised tax framework that provides legal certainty and attracts investment from vehicle manufacturers to Spain, as well as policies to support the industry and its entire value chain.
