SIL 2024: A showcase of innovation and digitalization for the global supply chain

A leading event in international logistics

Barcelona hosts the International Logistics Show, a key event for the global supply chain.

The International Logistics Exhibition, SIL 2024 , has opened its doors in Barcelona, bringing together more than 650 companies and showcasing 176 world premieres. The trade fair, which runs until June 7 at the Fira de Barcelona exhibition center , has become a showcase for the latest technological solutions applied to logistics, with a strong focus on innovation and digitalization.

Innovation and digitalization at the service of the supply chain

“This year’s SIL is evolving very rapidly, just like technology itself,” highlighted Pere Navarro , State Delegate to the Barcelona Free Trade Zone Consortium . “The central themes of SIL, especially the Congress we hold in conjunction with SIL, are precisely Logistics 4.0, which uses technologies such as artificial intelligence, blockchain, Big Data, and so on.”

In this vein, Blanca Sorigué , director of the Barcelona Free Trade Zone Consortium, pointed out that "the central focus of SIL has been, and continues to be , innovation , which clearly demonstrates the robust health of the logistics sector." In fact, more than 180 global innovations are being presented at SIL.

A booming sector with great potential

The logistics sector is currently experiencing a period of great dynamism, as stated by Jose Antonio Vicente , Director of Arex, Aragón Exterior: “We are a hub not only by air, as we are the second busiest cargo airport in Spain and therefore one of the most important in Southern Europe, but also because of our dry ports, which give us access to three ports, primarily Barcelona , Valencia , and Bilbao , in addition to all the corridors that will pass through. Therefore, it is a focal point for attracting investment, and in fact, it is becoming clear that productive investments in many sectors, and lately in new technologies, are greatly appreciating our location, infrastructure, and logistics.”

Aragon, land of logistics

SIL 2024 saw significant participation from autonomous communities, with Aragon standing out among them. "The Government of Aragon, through the Ministry of Development, Housing, Mobility, and Logistics, is once again here to establish a presence at the International Logistics Exhibition in Barcelona," explained the Minister of Development, Housing, Mobility, and Logistics for the Government of Aragon. "We are doing so because we aim to convey to the entire sector the geostrategic positioning of our autonomous community, its development potential, job creation, and the substantial growth that logistics is experiencing in our region."

The Aragonese councilor proudly added the region's recent achievements: " Logistics in Aragon generates more than 26,000 direct jobs and represents more than 5.5% of GDP. With the arrival of investments from companies like Amazon, Microsoft, and Stellantis, Aragon is positioning itself as a benchmark in the sector."

Networking and shared knowledge

The fair has also been a key networking and knowledge-sharing platform, with over 150 events organized and the participation of 320 top-level speakers. Furthermore, consultancies like Tucomex highlighted their role in international trade , with their CEO, Cristina Peña , emphasizing the importance of trust in international projects: "We are an international trade consultancy that helps clients reach other markets and establish companies in other countries, through training and events such as the International Foreign Trade Congress ."

SIL 2024 also includes the celebration of Mediterranean Logistics & Transport Week , which celebrates its 20th anniversary, uniting Europe, Asia and Africa through Mediterranean logistics.
