On December 27, 2024, Circumetnea railway, an agency under the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport of Italy, announced that the consortium SIS, composed by Fininc (51%) and Sacyr (49%), will be responsible for building a section of the metro in Catania, SicilyThe award amounts to 107,5 million euros and involves the development of the section between Monte Po and Misterbianco. This project includes the construction of two strategically located underground stations: one in the urban center of misterbianco and another in the business district Marx Corso.
The underground work will cover 2,2 kilometres and will be carried out using a tunnel boring machine with advanced technology that guarantees the stability of the ground during excavations. This section will connect with another project already being carried out by SIS: the route between Misterbianco and Paternò.
Italy represents a priority market for Sacyr
The development of the metro is essential to connect the peripheral areas of the north-west with the urban centre of Catania, which will significantly improve both urban and interurban mobility. In addition, SIS is designing and implementing an additional route between Misterbianco and Paternò comprising 10,6 kilometres with an investment of around 532 million euros. This contract could be extended to include an additional section from Ardizzone to Paternò.
Italy represents a priority market for Sacyr due to its multiple road concessions such as Pedemontana-Veneta or A-3 Naples-Pompeii-Salerno. He was also recently awarded the Parco della Salute project in Turin.
With these projects, Sacyr Concesiones strengthens its position as a world leader in infrastructure by managing a portfolio valued at more than 3.550 millones de euros, as highlighted by PWF magazine, ranking it third globally in transport concessions.
This development reflects not only the company's strategic expansion within the Italian territory but also its ongoing commitment to innovative solutions that positively transform the cities where it operates.
