The Chamber of Spain and the Chamber of Commerce of Ukraine strengthen their economic and commercial relations

During the telematic signing event, representatives of different Ukrainian regional chambers participated, as well as the president of the Chamber of Seville and the vice president of the Chamber of Valencia.

La Chamber of Commerce of Spain has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce and Industry with the aim of strengthening economic and commercial relations between both countries. Different chambers of commerce from both countries participated in the event, held electronically due to the war situation in Ukraine.

 

Joseph Louis Bonet, president of the Chamber of Spain, has expressed his solidarity and support for the Ukrainian people in these difficult times and has welcomed the announcement by the European Commission to accept Ukraine's candidacy to join the UE. Bonet has highlighted the shared values ​​of "peace, respect for international legality and the sovereignty of nations, solidarity and humanitarian cooperation" and has underlined the desire of the Spanish Chamber of Commerce, "for the terrible war.”

 

For his part, the president of the House of Ukraine, Gennadiy Chyzhykov, thanked Spain for the support provided to his country. Chyzhykov explained that 10 of the 25 regions into which his country is divided have been impacted by the war and that two thirds of Ukrainian borders are closed to trade. “However, we must also talk about the future,” Chyzhykov noted, “we seek collaboration with the EU", as a great challenge, and we believe that Spain can find new possibilities in Ukraine."

 

The collaboration between the institutions, reinforced with the MOU signed during the event, will be based on common initiatives and activities to seek new business opportunities, investment, promotion of trade and commercial exchanges between both countries.

 

Representatives of several Ukrainian regional chambers also participated during the meeting: Dina Sidash, vice president president Dnipro Chamber; Andrii Kuts, vice president of the Zaporozhye Chamber; Natalya Belyakova, president of the Chamber of Khmelnick; Lyudmila Solonar vice president of the Kyrovogradsk Chamber, and Larysa Tsyhan, vice president of the Chernihiv Chamber. They have all explained the impact of the war on companies and how they are channeling humanitarian aid in their localities. “We hope to strengthen relations in the coming years and reach new agreements, we are open to receiving any proposal,” said the vice president of the Dnipro Chamber.

 

From the Zaporizhzhia Chamber, Andrii Kuts, has pointed out that his region is “one of the most developed in the country, especially the metallurgical and construction sector”, but with the “war 50 kilometers away”, “50% of the companies have stopped working, and only 20%, mainly in the food sector, are active.”

 

Natalya Belyakova, recalled the existing relations, prior to the war, with the Chambers of Valladolid and Zamora and his great interest in “taking an example” from the development of the Spanish food, textile and machinery sectors.” From the Chernihiv Chamber, Larysa Tsyhan also recalled her relationship before the war, with the Chamber of Seville and the boost given, thanks to her, to an initiative for women entrepreneurs. Tsyhan has also explained that her region is one of the most impacted by the attacks, with 70% of the infrastructure destroyed.

 

Finally, from Spain, Francisco Herrero, president of the Chamber of Seville, has highlighted "the indignation and condemnation of the Spanish Chambers at the aggression that Ukraine has suffered", and has pointed out that "the commercial relations of the whole of Andalusia and Ukraine, before the war, were very positive." Besides, Vicente Lafuente, vice president of the Chamber of Valencia, has pointed out “the willingness of companies to strengthen collaboration with the country and its companies” and recalled that the Chamber of Valencia and the Chamber of Ukraine signed their first cooperation agreement 18 years ago.
