IESE, founded in 1958, is Spain's first business school, part of the University of Navarra. It was established with a clear objective: to focus the training of senior managers on an international vision and a humanistic and ethical perspective of work within the company, while also seeking immediate relevance to the business world.
More than 2.000 companies regularly look to IESE for their next candidates and future managers. In 2002, for example, the 216 students who completed the MBA program received an average of two firm job offers.
IESE's mission is to serve society in general and the business world in particular. To this end, they provide high-quality education and a solid foundation of research into the issues affecting businesses. Furthermore, they promote the development and transmission of knowledge, as well as the skills and attitudes necessary for leadership in an increasingly globalized world.
Another defining characteristic of IESE is its close collaboration with the world's leading business schools. Since its founding, IESE has been a global leader in academic partnerships.
One of IESE's most important programs, the MBA, was born in 1964 thanks to an academic alliance between IESE and Harvard Business School, which created the Harvard/IESE advisory committee in 1963 that meets every year.
Thanks to this close relationship, it was possible to establish, in 1964, the two-year IESE MBA program, the first in Europe, the training of IESE professors at that university, and the launch of the first program for managers offered jointly by Harvard and IESE: Achieving Breakthrough Service (ABS).
Currently, two versions of this program are offered, one in Europe and one in Latin America. In addition, dozens of IESE professors have earned their doctorates at Harvard; numerous Harvard professors are visiting professors at IESE; and there are international educational programs developed jointly by both schools.
Thus, the agreements established with Harvard have expanded to include collaborations and strategic alliances between IESE and leading business schools such as Harvard (Achieving Breakthrough Service, Strategies for Transforming Multibusiness Corporations), the University of Michigan (Renewing Global Strategy), Wharton, and Cranfield. Furthermore, student exchanges between IESE and these schools are very frequent.
Among the leading programs offered at IESE, the Executive MBA stands out. Offered at the Madrid campus since 1981, it can be combined with regular work. The two-year program is aimed at approximately 70 professionals annually, all with at least five years of experience.
The Global Executive MBA, created in 2001, is taught in English and is divided into seven twelve-day modules over a fifteen-month period. It provides the knowledge necessary to work in a globalized and virtual world, with e-business being one of its core areas of study. Five of the seven modules are taught at IESE Business School in Barcelona, one module at the China Europe International Business School in Shanghai, and another in Silicon Valley, in collaboration with Stanford University.
In this way, the program offers participants the opportunity to immerse themselves in the dynamic and distinctive business cultures of Asia, Europe, and the United States.
