German investors are anticipating their investment plans as a result of positive economic developments. German officials participating in the Business Development Day, organized by the Izmir Free Zone (ESBAS), reported their readiness to invest in Turkey. At several meetings convened at the request of the newly appointed German ambassador, Wolf Ruthart Born, it was conveyed that Turkey is increasingly moving toward a stable economy. The ambassador stated that the potential deployment of Turkish troops to Iraq will not affect trade relations between the two countries. He added that "Turkish workers in Germany are German citizens," and that there are 10.000 German companies operating in Turkey. These companies, of varying sizes, wish to continue investing in the country. Germany is the European country with which Turkey has the strongest ties.
At the same meeting, the president of the German Development Bank, Volker Siepen, stated that investments worth €120 million would be made in the short term. Siepen added that there were issues with the documents submitted by Turkish companies regarding their balance sheets and transparency, but none concerning loan repayment. He asserted that the Turkish economy would improve in the coming months, thereby increasing confidence in the country's potential.
