The military deployment of the Russian Army on the border with Ukraine, and the demands of the Kremlin to receive “the security guarantees” of the United States and NATO reflect his ambition to change the European security order and reverse the defeat of the Soviet Union in the Cold War.
The Ukraine crisis has once again put Russia in the West's spotlight. The U.S. is reinforcing its military presence in the Eastern allied countries, and the NATO has reached out to Russia and has insisted on the importance of a solution to the crisis based on dialogue and diplomacy, offering a negotiation on disarmament.
An independent Ukraine is the pillar of the architecture of the European security order, but also of the future of the international order, which China and Russia, two revisionist actors, aim to redesign.
