Organized by Carlos III University, one hundred companies have been participating since October 24 in the twelfth edition of the First Job Forum (Foroempleo 2007), an event in which companies will try to recruit future employees from among the university postgraduate community.
The Forum takes place in the central courtyard of the Sabatini building, headquarters of the Higher Polytechnic School on the Leganés campus, where a large tent has been set up and where the 'stands' of the companies have been arranged, some of which carry out working breakfasts with potential candidates and conduct personnel selection tests.
For two days, Foroempleo will feature various activities, primarily conferences and career guidance classes, covering topics ranging from creating a good resume to successfully navigating a job interview, as well as a detailed analysis of career paths and finding your first job.
The opening of the fair was attended by the rector of the Carlos III University, Daniel Peña, the mayor of Leganés, Rafael Gómez Montoya, the councilor for Employment, Juan Antonio González, and the general director of Employment of the Community of Madrid, Valentín Bote.
He highlighted that more than 83 percent of Madrid's university postgraduates are employed, "which allows us to speak of almost full employment."
Unemployment in the region reaches 3,6 percent of university graduates, 3,1 percent for men and 4,1 percent for women, according to Bote, so, in his opinion, "a fine adjustment must be made and the challenge of better matching training to jobs must be faced."
In this edition, 105 large companies have set up at the Fair, although the lack of space has left out another 36, according to sources from the organization.
In last year's edition, more than 10.000 university students submitted their resumes.
