Harvard University carries out this innovative project to visualize the economies of each country, according to the products they export.

El Globe of economic complexity It is a project Biomedical Engineering faculty at Harvard University that visualizes the economies of each country according to the products they export.

 

Available at globe.cid.harvard.edu, each pixel has a different color depending on the product it represents, and each point is 100 million dollars in exchange, so following the lines of the blue dots it is possible, for example, keep track of the exports of electronics around the world.

 

Each color is a different type of industry. While blue represents electronics, yellow represents vegetables and crops, so at a glance you can distinguish what a country concentrates on most depending on the number of colors that exist within it. At the bottom the meaning of each color is specified.

 

 

A wonder to learn more about the global economy

 

When clicking on the desired country, links are seen pointing to the countries where it is most exported, respecting colors depending on the type of product, so that if we click on Spain we will see a lot of light blue color (automotive industry), for example.

 

It is possible to access more detailed tables, so if you wish to consult the exported products for a specific country, or the existing stock of a certain region, you just have to access the corresponding information.

 

Both the information and the display mode are quite flexible, since it is possible to view the data in globe, flat map or column mode, with the stock of colors for each of the registered countries.
