Valenciaport consolidates its positive trend in container traffic in Europe. According to statistical data from the European Sea Ports Organization (ESPO)At the end of the first quarter of the year, Valenciaport has climbed one position in the European ranking of container ports, overtaking Bremen as the fourth port in Europe for this type of cargo.

 

Based on data provided by ESPO, the German enclave has handled 1.241.690 TEU during the first three months of the year. This figure represents a reduction of 103.792 TEU compared to the same period of the previous year, which translates into a decline of 7,7%. In the first four months of the year, the three ports managed by the Port Authority of Valencia have handled 1.807.510 TEU, a figure that represents a growth of 11,05%. Non-containerized general merchandise closed the first four months of the year with an increase of 8,39% and a total traffic of 5.081.171 tons. In this section, merchandise traffic such as steel products stands out, with a movement of 737.000 tons and a decrease of 22,88%; and automobiles and their parts, with a movement of 636.000 tons and an increase of 4,46%. This decrease is due to the registrations of merchandise such as cement and clinker, which decreased by 68,9% to 15.300 tons; or cereals and their flours, which fell by 34,43% to 300.000 tons. Regarding liquid bulk, at the end of the first four months of the year they experienced a decrease of 27,63%, with a total traffic of 573.020 tons. By merchandise, chemicals stand out, with 136.000 tons (+3,04%); natural gas, with 121.000 tons (+34,64%); wines, beverages, alcohols and derivatives, with 66.000 tons (-1,26%); and diesel, with 65.000 tons (-46,78%).

 

Traffic by countries and geographic areas

 

The five countries that have channeled the highest volume of merchandise through Valenciaport during the period accumulated between January and April have been: Spain, with 3,27 million tons (+2,16%); Italy, with 2,51 million tons (+27,16%); United States, with 2,46 million tons (+20,10%); China, with 2,04 million tons (+1,17%) and Turkey, with 1,91 million tons (+50,12%). By geographical areas, the Mediterranean and Black Sea area stands out, with a total of 8,09 million tons and an increase of 17,28%; and that of the Far East, with 3,27 million tons and an advance of 2,16%.
