In a strategic move to consolidate its position in the digital age, the Grupo Volkswagen has strengthened its alliance with CGI, one of the largest information technology and business consulting firms worldwide. This expanded collaboration focuses on creating MARV1N, an international development unit designed to drive digitalization projects across the automotive conglomerate.
The main objective of this initiative is to accelerate the development of software for new systems of Volkswagen IT, enabling a more efficient transition to a modern and scalable technology infrastructure. By 2026, Volkswagen plans to replace hundreds of legacy systems with a reduced number of more powerful and versatile platforms, which promises to significantly reduce operating costs and improve agility in the development of new products and services.
Hauke StarsStars, a member of the Volkswagen Group's IT Management Board, emphasized the importance of this collaboration in an increasingly digitalized automotive environment: "For the development and production of modern products, we need modern IT systems. Therefore, at the Volkswagen Group, we are working on our systems environment of the future: powerful, multi-brand, and scalable." Stars added: "Our expanded collaboration with CGI is another step towards ensuring the growing demand for performance in software development within the Volkswagen Group."
The creation of the MARV1N development unit promises to accelerate innovation in software and IT systems, optimizing the production and development of next-generation vehicles.
The MARV1N entity, a wholly owned subsidiary of CGI Germany, will become a nerve centre for the Development of custom software solutions for VolkswagenMARV1N teams will focus on critical projects such as developing data-driven features for new vehicles, including a comprehensive IT system to manage electrical/electronic architecture requirements and software features from the development stage through to after-sales service.
François BoulangerCGI's president and CEO, Boulanger, expressed his enthusiasm for this strategic alliance: "Through this strategic alliance, we will further strengthen our already robust relationship with Volkswagen as we collaborate to accelerate the Volkswagen Group's business results in line with its digitalization vision and strategy." Boulanger explained that CGI's software architects, developers, and consultants will contribute their technological expertise and knowledge of production business processes to drive innovation at Volkswagen.
The collaboration with CGI will enable Volkswagen to benefit from a number of advantages, including the acceleration of development processes, the acquisition of in-depth knowledge of the Group's software processes and products, and the retention of this knowledge within the company. The integration of MARV1N's teams with those of Volkswagen will facilitate the transfer of knowledge and close collaboration on strategic projects.
Initially, MARV1N will focus on projects related to technical development, a key area for Volkswagen’s digitalisation. The development of data-driven functions for new vehicles will be a priority, with the aim of shortening development times for software updates and digital products such as Functions on Demand.
The creation of MARV1N represents a significant step in the Volkswagen's digitalisation strategy, allowing the automotive group to remain at the forefront of innovation in an increasingly competitive market.
